My Grandfather is Sailing
My Grandfather is sailing;
Away from us all, on his own;
With only his own thoughts as company.
My Grandfather is sailing;
Farther and farther away;
He always enjoyed sailing, even as a boy.
My Grandfather is sailing;
A brutal wind kicks up, the mast;
Comes down. My Grandfather struggling.
My Grandfather is sailing;
Trying to keep the boat afloat;
Trying his hardest, he looks up, sees a flock of birds.
My Grandfather is sailing;
Sailing with the birds in the sky;
A smile on his face for the first time on this quest.
My Grandfather is sailing;
From above he looks down and sees himself struggling;
He sees himself engulfed by the sea, fighting for life.
My Grandfather is sailing;
Sailing along with the birds;
His other self submits to his beloved sea.
My Grandfather is sailing;
Up, and up, and up, straight up;
Yet, never leaving the earth.
My Grandfather is sailing;
His boat still at dock.
